Titus Rice’s go-ahead lay-in with 51 seconds on the clock gave the UCC men’s basketball team a crucial home victory 76-75 over the visiting Clackamas Cougars Saturday.

With 6.8 seconds left in the game, the Cougars’ (11-9 overall, 3-2 league) Jaylen Edwards missed a game-winning 4-footer as time expired. It was the second straight game that has come down to the wire for UCC (12-7, 3-2). The Riverhawks beat SWOCC on the road in overtime Thursday, 103-94.

“Tonight was the best win I have been a part of since coaching at UCC,” head coach Daniel Leeworthy said. “I am very happy with how we played. We executed at high levels and made plays down the stretch.”

UCC’s Charles Porter scored a game high 24 points, while Joe Baldi had 10 of his 17 points in the final six minutes of play, including two crucial 3-pointers.

“Clackamas is one of the best teams in the NWAC and [this game] proves that we are too by the way we played tonight,” Leeworthy said. “It was a total team win, and we got contributions from everyone.”

Riverhawk’s Jordan Madrid-Andrews finished with 10 points and a game-high nine rebounds and Jeremy Smith added eight points, four rebounds and three assists. The win put UCC in a three-way tie for second place in the NWAC south region.
